Bulgaria has an approximate population of seven million, yet the available dating sites are far and few. Meeting new people in the Balkans typically boils down to meeting up in clubs and bars, but what about those who want to expand their social circle outside of the party scene?
This article covers everything you need to know about available Bulgarian dating sites, including how they work and the best way to find romantic success.

Sladur.com is the only dating site exclusive to Bulgaria, and it gains lots of traction among its active users.
Sladur was founded in 2000 and is now 21 years old, but hasn’t moved on from the past. The dating site is not available as a mobile application; users can use it on a mobile browsing platform like Google Chrome or Safari, but it’s extremely difficult to do so.
How Do I Register for Sladur?
The registration process for Sladur is relatively lengthy but straightforward. It has a total of 35 fields that you need to fill out, including uploading a profile photo, filling out the ‘About Me’ section, and any schools you attended in the past or are currently enrolled at.
What are the Scam Prevention Processes Like?
The registration process does its best to weed out fake accounts and bots by requiring secondary email confirmation and having a moderator approve each uploaded photo. However, fake accounts still seem to slide through.
It isn’t difficult to spot scams during your searches, though. Many fake accounts have overly-revealing profile photos or plainly state that they’re searching for new “clients.” You can also report profiles that you think are fake for further investigation by moderators.
Does Sladur Offer a Premium Subscription?
Sladur is free to register, but you can purchase a premium membership for a monthly cost of 2.40 BGN [VAT included]. To become a VIP member, you’re required to send a text message to a number and follow the payment procedure from there.
Becoming a VIP member on Sladur gives you the following perks:
- Access to the full list of people who have browsed your profile
- Access to the list of people who have “liked you” or favorited your profile
- You can view the past ten IP addresses that have logged in with your username
- You can see who has voted for you and can vote for a member of the month
- You can hide your last login date to Sladur
- The ability to see the statuses of your sent messages (read, deleted, date)
- The ability to limit who has access to your profile, with restrictions such as the country they’re from or age group
- Messages are archived for longer than 30 days
- Your profile receives a VIP badge
- You receive an instant pop-up message when someone visits your profile
The perks you receive as a Sladur VIP are plentiful for the low price, but the downside to registering for a Sladur premium membership is that it’s challenging to cancel. You cannot cancel the membership online or via email and instead are required to send a physical letter or contact the customer support phone number.
Will I Have Privacy on Sladur?
One of the most critical factors for singles who are entering the online dating scene is their privacy. One of the most significant downsides to Sladur is that your profile is public even to visitors who don’t have an account, so anyone who is looking for full discretion should look elsewhere.
The Best Way to Use Sladur
If you ever used MySpace when it was in its prime, then you’ll have no problems navigating and using Sladur to find a match.
Basic search criteria while browsing Sladur include gender, age, online status, and whether or not the profile has a photo. You can also filter your search with extended forms based on your region or use Sladur’s VIP membership to land yourself a priority slot among other profiles.
The best way to get noticed on Sladur is to sign up for a VIP membership. Fortunately, the membership price is much lower than its competitors. You receive countless benefits like a VIP badge, instant messages when someone visits your profile, and access to people who are already interested in you, which gives you a head start.
Tinder is a worldwide famous dating application known for being a hub of singles looking for hookups and fun times, but many users have found success by landing a lifelong partner on the platform. The app works by using a simple swipe function; swipe left for no, swipe right for yes, and if both users swipe right, they match and can begin chatting.
Tinder is widespread across the Balkans but is especially busy with lots of potential matches in the country capital, Sofia.
The app was released in 2012 and is available on iOS, Android, and web applications. While the internet version of Tinder is functional, it works best on a mobile device, mostly because it is based on your geographical location.
How Do I Register for Tinder?
Creating a Tinder account is quick and painless. Signing up using a mobile device means that you will need to submit and confirm your phone number while signing up on the web allows you to choose between signing in with Google or with a phone number.
Tinder will request access to your location and camera if you’d like to take some fresh photos for your profile. Once you’ve created your account, all you need to do is upload some pictures, craft an attractive bio, and get swiping.
What are the Scam Prevention Processes Like?
Tinder is well-known for hosting many scammers, but their recent addition of photo verification has dramatically improved the user experience.
The verification process is quick and easy and requires you to mimic a pose shown by the app and take a selfie. This is repeated one more time, and then your photos are sent off for review where they’re compared to your profile and the assigned poses.
Once you’re verified, a blue checkmark will appear on your profile. On the flip side, you can rest assured that anyone you’re chatting with that has a blue checkmark is the real deal.
If you start chatting with someone and discover that they’re a bot or a scammer, reporting someone on Tinder is easy and can fall under the category of “suspicious behavior.” Tinder is well-known for investigating reports thoroughly and coming to a conclusion quickly, which usually ends in suspending or banning a user’s account.
Does Tinder Offer Premium Subscriptions?
Like Sladur, Tinder is also free to sign up for the opportunity to upgrade to a premium subscription. There are three separate subscription tiers with different prices and benefits, named Tinder Plus, Tinder Gold, and Tinder Platinum.
Tinder membership prices change depending on your age. The reasoning behind this decision is not clear, but the threshold changes at the 30-year old mark. Like most subscription plans, Tinder offers discounts when you pay for a longer period up-front, like six months or one year.
Tinder also lets users purchase certain features a la carte, including boosts and Super Likes.
Tinder Plus (Tinder+) is the most basic of the three subscription tiers, and the prices are as follow for users under the age of 30:
- One month is 15.88 BGN
- Six months is a flat rate of 55.61 BGN, or 9.27 BGN per month (42% discount)
- One year is a flat rate of 87.40 BGN, or 7.28 BGN per month (54% discount)
For users above the age of 30, these prices are doubled. Tinder has faced significant criticism due to this decision, and as a result, has been required to pay repercussions to Tinder users. They have also been forced to charge the same prices regardless of age in California. Unfortunately, this does not apply to Bulgaria.
Becoming a Tinder Plus member gives you the following perks:
- No advertisements
- Unlimited likes
- Five ‘Super Likes‘ per day
- ‘Rewind,’ a feature that allows you to take back your last swipe
- One boost per month, which puts your profile at the top for singles in your area for a span of 30 minutes
- Access to ‘Passport,’ which allows you to match and chat with users worldwide and not just in Bulgaria. This feature is great if you frequently travel and want to keep in touch with singles from home or are interested in long-distance flings.
Tinder Gold is the next subscription tier after Tinder Plus. The prices are as follow for users under the age of 30 and doubled for users over 30:
- One month is 23.83 BGN
- Six months is a flat rate of 84.22 BGN, or 14.03 BGN per month (41% discount)
- One year is a flat rate of 131.91 BGN, or 11 BGN per month (54% discount)
Becoming a Tinder Gold member gives you the same perks as a Tinder Plus subscription, as well as:
- The ability to see if someone likes you before swiping left or right
- New’ Top Picks‘ every day, which highlights your most “swipe-worthy” potential matches
Lastly, the newest subscription tier to be announced is Tinder Platinum. Tinder Platinum is only available as an upgrade to existing Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold users, so free users cannot choose this option right off the bat.
Tinder Platinum’s prices vary greatly, with users in Canada paying 116.03 BGN per six months and users in Mexico paying 100.13 BGN for an entire year. It is not clear if Tinder Platinum is available in Bulgaria yet as it has not been “officially” released. Still, the upgrades you receive when coming from Tinder Plus and Tinder Gold are fairly underwhelming:
- The ability to send a message before matching when using a Super Like
- The ability to have your swipe prioritized over others with Priority Likes
- The ability to see the right swipes you’ve sent in the past week
Even if Tinder Platinum becomes available in Bulgaria soon, we recommend sticking to either Tinder Plus or Tinder Gold for the sake of your wallet and matching experience.
Will I Have Privacy on Tinder?
In terms of your privacy regarding other users, there is no option to hide your profile from a specific audience or age range. Anyone can find your Tinder profile if they look hard enough.
Fortunately, there is an option in settings to remove your profile from the pool in case you simply want to take a break or focus on a new relationship. This feature helps to avoid any potential problems if someone finds your profile under false circumstances.
The Best Way to Get Matches on Tinder
Like we said before, Tinder operates on a straightforward concept: swipe left for no, and swipe right for yes.
Your best chance at finding matches is to swipe right and be active. Profiles that haven’t swiped on anyone for seven days are automatically removed from the pool by Tinder, so potential singles in your area won’t see you.
Additionally, Tinder makes it easy to find others who share similar interests and hobbies as you. You can select up to five “passions,” which can include anything from tattoos, gaming, sports, and more, and when viewing other user’s profiles, Tinder will highlight any matching passions. Having high-quality photos and a short and concise biography also helps.
Balkans have a tendency to swipe left on tourists or visitors who appear to be there for a bachelorette or stag party, so if you’re coming from out of town, you should clarify why you’re there to increase your chances.
If activity in your area is higher than usual, you’ll receive a notification that there is a Swipe Surge going on. Tinder claims that the matching potential during this time is increased to 250%, so it’s a must to hop on during these times.
The last viable option for Bulgarian dating sites is the newer emergence of Facebook Dating. As of December 2020, approximately 4.3 million Facebook users were located in Bulgaria, which is over half of the population, meaning that your chances of finding a match are relatively high.
Unlike Sladur and Tinder, Facebook Dating does not offer any premium memberships or paid services and is entirely free. This Facebook feature is also only available on iOS and Android, not web applications.
How Do I Register for Facebook Dating?
To sign up for Facebook Dating, you need to already have a Facebook account. The registration process only takes a few steps.
The dating side of Facebook is entirely separate from your account, so you’ll be asked to fill in new profile details like your gender identity, hometown, school, and whatever else you’d like to share. You’ll also need to upload new photos and biography, similar to setting up a Tinder account.
What are the Scam Prevention Processes Like?
Facebook doesn’t seem to have any active forms of scam prevention for Facebook Dating, but they do have many resources for users who think they may be the victim of a scammer.
Warning signs include someone immediately wanting to chat elsewhere (besides Facebook Dating), claiming to be in love very quickly, and requesting money or travel fare. The reporting process is quick and easy if you suspect something, and Facebook will look into your claims.
Will I Have Privacy on Facebook Dating?
Like we stated previously, your Facebook Dating profile is entirely separate from your profile. You have to explicitly opt-in to enroll in Facebook Dating, and your activity will not show up on your newsfeed for friends and family to see. Only other Facebook Dating members will be able to see your dating profile.
In case you ever wanted to pull yourself off Facebook Dating indefinitely, there is a feature called On Pause that allows you to keep connected with your matches and current chats. Still, you will not appear to potential partners or in any searches.
How to Use Facebook Dating and Find a Match
Facebook Dating has a unique matching process compared to its competitors, and it focuses on forming meaningful connections rather than appearance-based judgments and boring conversations.
The app matches you with other singles in your area based on interests and hobbies you have listed, and you’ll only see profiles that fit your preferred location, age, and sexual orientation. If someone doesn’t interest you, you need to select ‘Not Interested’ rather than swiping left or picking ‘Nope.’
If a profile does interest you, you’re required to select one of the photos on their profile and ask them a question about the picture. This helps get the ball rolling and launches you into an exciting ice breaker that can lead to more.
The Final Say on Bulgarian Dating Sites
Sladur is exclusive to Bulgaria and popular among Balkans, but comes with some significant fallbacks, like the fact that it’s not available as a mobile application. The premium membership price is low and gives you a substantial advantage over free users.
If you’re interested in a more modern Bulgarian dating site, then consider trying out Tinder. The app is exceptionally active among young singles, especially in Sofia. The free version is perfectly fine for most, but the subscription costs for singles under 30 years old are relatively reasonable.
If you want to check out other popular dating sites and apps, here are the best dating apps many singles like.
Lastly, an entirely free but still relatively new platform to enter the market is Facebook Dating. It’s expected to see a large boom in users and activity soon and should be on anyone’s radar looking to expand their social presence.
