Who doesn’t love a Thanksgiving Day? It’s the time of year where turkey dinners, cranberries, candied yams, mashed potatoes are commonly prepared in the table for the family to enjoy.
In the United States, Thanksgiving is held every fourth Thursday of November. During this holiday, families gather to spend time, have fun, and catch up with each other lives. Others, on the other hand, attend parades of Indians and colonial figures. Everyone has their own way of celebrating Thanksgiving. Although it’s a great thing to take advantage of this holiday for a family gathering, some people forget the real meaning of it and the history of why it was established.
Thanksgiving should be more about our thankfulness to God for all the blessings we received during the year. It’s more than just eating, partying and watching games. It’s unfortunate that this modern generation has been brainwashed by sales pitches, marketing tactics, and commercialism. Although there are some people who still follow the original tradition, it is important that we look back and learn about the purpose for it was first celebrated. Once we learn about history, we will begin to truly appreciate Thanksgiving Day and we will be able to teach the future generation of its real meaning.
