A 26-year-old man took the Close-Up brand toothpaste message too literally. He says that he has been using it for 7 years without getting the results that the ads promised.
Anthony Olatunfe may need to rethink his strategy when it comes to attracting women!
Slapping on some toothpaste, brushing your teeth, and having nice smelling breath is a good thing, but toothpaste is not a magic paste for getting a woman!
Apparently he is filing a lawsuit against the company. I would really like to see the people behind marketing at this point. Are they laughing? Are they bewildered? Are they rethinking their whole marketing strategy?
Olatunfe said, “Where is the Close-Up effect? I’ve been waiting for it for over seven years. Right from my college to now in my office, no girl ever agreed to even go out for a tea or coffee with me, even though I’m sure they could smell my breath. I always brush my teeth with so much close up gel to make sure the girls get turned on by my fresh breath as they usually show on TV.” Source
Seriously?
First off, he’s sure they could smell his breath? You have to be pretty close to someone for them to smell your breath. Therefore, he may be invading their personal space a little! No wonder girls are saying no!
Second, what is he thinking while he’s brushing his teeth? “Yep, this is really going to turn her on today!”
It just sounds like a case of taking things too literally.
However, I read that he has kept all of his left over tubes of toothpaste, which makes me wonder if he planned this.
Could he have seen the commercial back then and realized that seven years from now he could fight the claim that he should attract women with the toothpaste? If that is the case, he is a patient man with a plan.
Otherwise, he may need to think his whole approach with women. My bet is he blows the attraction part before he gets close enough for them to smell his breath!
