Aries men are fairly straightforward and easy to understand. They tend to match up with most male stereotypes; they’re masculine, confident, self-assured, and sensual. They also aren’t the best at dealing with their emotions, and they can be prone to fits of anger.
On the whole, Aries men are incredibly generous, happy, and easy to get along with. Where Aries women tend to be adventurous and spontaneous, Aries men tend to be more laid-back and easy to relate to. They tend to get along with most signs, but we’ll go a bit more into depth to what they get along within this article.
Learning About an Aries Man
Like other Aries, an Aries man tends to look like the vision of perfection when you first meet him. On the outside, Aries men are put-together, self-assured, satisfied, confident, and much more. They’re charming, and they know it, too, but instead of flaunting this, they’re confident that those around them will notice it without much effort on their part.
Like the ram his sign signifies, an Aries man is quick to butt up against other people, ideas, and situations. He enjoys a good debate, provided that his opponent is strong enough to go up against him – he neither likes nor respects weaklings. An Aries man values strength above pretty much all else.
As such, an Aries man will be looking for strength in his mate, too. The Aries man values someone who can impress others as much as he does, but he’s not a fan of overly self-indulgent people, either. He values quiet confidence and sureness above ego, even though he can sometimes have a bit of ego himself.
Other traits you might expect to see in an Aries man include:
- Emotional walls
- Passion
- Hot-headedness
- No-nonsense attitude
- Lack of patience
- Wanderlust
- Stubbornness
Stubbornness
If you’ve ever tried to get a ram to do something you want, then you know the innate stubbornness of the Aries man. Regardless of whether something is better for him or not, whether something he doesn’t acknowledge is true or not, he’ll defend his stance until he’s thoroughly lost.
This doesn’t mean an Aries man is completely unreasonable, however. As long as his temper doesn’t come into play, it’s possible to reason with or even sway an Aries man. However, if you bring his anger or his ego into the picture, then you’re not likely to get him to back down on anything.
When it comes to the Aries man himself, though, you’ll see his stubbornness come out one hundred-fold. An Aries man lives his life according to what he believes is the best possible course of action, and if someone else tries to tell him differently, the chances are that he’ll take it personally.
Of course, as with all sign-related predictions, this depends on the unique Aries you’re talking about. Some Aries men might be better at considering outside advice than others, and some might be more sensitive to it. However, as a general rule, an Aries man’s everyday life is a big source of his pride.
Pride
On the topic of pride, it should be noticed that an Aries man’s pride is a big source of his stubbornness. The size of an Aries man’s ego can vary from much too large to appropriately-sized, but it’s very rarely small. Aries men can have some of the most impressive egos of all the Zodiacs, just as their fire sign suggests.
While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing if kept in check, sometimes it can lead to your Aries man being self-absorbed. Self-absorption is a common trait among Aries, both men and women, so it’s something you should be aware of and prepared for.
Pride doesn’t have to be a bad thing in your Aries male, however. For many of Aries’ compatible signs, a healthy sense of pride can be attractive and even enticing. However, this pride has to be tempered by understanding and sensitivity, both of which Aries tend to lack in many ways.
Heated
Coupling off Aries’ most notable traits is their ability to become heated. An Aries man has no problem with showing emotions like excitement, happiness, interest, and curiosity, even if they tend to have trouble with their deeper emotions. This often leads to a spirited individual who has a strong desire for excitement and adventure.
Unfortunately, this excitable nature can make a male Aries particularly vulnerable to boredom, as well. While his principles are too strong for an Aries man to ever be unfaithful on principle, a bored Aries in a relationship will be quick to consider whether the relationship is worth continuing or not. If he decides it’s not, he won’t hesitate to tell you so, and he might trample your emotions along the way.
Unfortunately, Aries males have a habit of becoming heated when emotions get high, too. Aries men are especially poor at dealing with repressed emotions like hurt, sadness, and discontent. Sometimes, those feelings end up coming out explosively.
For this reason, the water signs, such as Cancer and Pisces, can be especially gifted at calming down an Aries male and helping him control his emotions. While Aries men tend to be more compatible with the water signs than Aries women do, they can quickly scare off or hurt the more sensitive of the water signs, too, with their zealous personalities.
Sign Compatibility for Aries Men
As a general rule, a sign who can temper the Aries man’s emotions while stoking his desire for passion and adventure makes a stellar match. However, it’s a lot to ask for someone with both the patience to do so and the drive to keep up with an Aries male. There are four signs who tend to be especially good at doing so: Aquarius, Saggitarius, Leo, and Gemini.
There are two elements that tend to balance out Aries’ tendencies well: fire and air. This is reflected in Aries’ most compatible signs, of course. However, there are benefits to earth and water signs, too, though they can be more difficult to work.
Depending on how volatile your Aries male is, he can benefit differently from fire or air signs. We’ll go into this more below.
Fire Signs
Sagittarius and Leo, the fire signs most compatible with Aries (though Aries can sometimes work well with other Aries, too, as long as one of them is emotionally sensitive), tend to strike an excellent balance between the Aries and the other sign. Because both signs have to do with fire, they can find mutual common ground very easily, and they can take solace in their similarities.
While the fire signs don’t always tend to be the most sensitive, they’re better than trying to make things work with an Earth sign. Leo, for example, tends to be much more in touch with their emotions than Aries does, especially if they were born on the Cancer cusp.
As a general rule, the fire signs tend to do pretty well at communication. Putting two fire signs together can sometimes make existing communication problems worse, but they usually can muddle through somehow. Fire signs aren’t known to give up easily, after all, and eventually, one of them will figure out how to get through it by trial and error.
The beauty of these fire signs coming together is that they both temper and bank each others’ flames. Fire signs understand each other incredibly well, so they can bolster each others’ weaknesses and build upon their strengths. This won’t result in the same level of passion that combining an air sign with a fire sign will, but it’ll result in more stability than you would see otherwise.
Air Signs
As we suggested above, air signs can make an excellent match for the fiery Aries. However, the drawback of such excellent compatibility is that the air signs can build up the Aries’ flames much too high. Air signs tend to be fickle and hard to understand, and while an Aries will admire their mystery for as long as they come together, their unpredictability may eventually become too much for the Aries.
There’s nothing wrong with getting together with an air sign like Gemini or Aquarius. In fact, we’d go as far as to consider them the best possible match for an Aries male. However, this relationship isn’t as stable as the one you’ll find between two fire signs. While the air and fire signs will build each other up high, that means they have much further to fall, too.
As long as both the air sign and the Aries are dedicated to making the relationship work, they have only great things to gain. However, they tend to become distracted by more trivial things and overlook the root of the issue: the Aries’ inability to deal with his emotions. Air signs, being fickle and fleeting themselves, might not feel any desire to deal with Aries’ emotional baggage.
Fortunately, the Aries male’s intense nature is usually enough to make the air sign want to be tied down with him. In the same measure, the mysterious nature of the air sign makes the male Aries want to spend time figuring them out and working towards a future together. With a little caring and dedication, these two can really make a relationship work well.
Water Signs
We’ve already mentioned this a little bit, but water signs can be a dangerous combination for Aries. While Aries has the potential to create the most fulfilling and happy long-term relationships with the water signs, the first few months or years can be torturous. A sign like Cancer, who needs emotional support and love, can feel bereft when dealing with a closed-off Aries, and Aries is just as quick to think Cancer is needy and wimpy in the same measure.
However, all is not lost between Aries men and water signs. Aries women, as a rule, have more trouble relating to the water signs, because they tend to highly prioritize strength in their partner. However, Aries men are more likely to attribute the sensitivity of the water signs to their womanly (or otherwise) charms instead of simply weakness.
If the Aries man and his water sign care about each other deeply, they do have many shots to make things work between them. If they can manage to ride out the initial storm, they can truly create a beautiful thing between them over time.
See, the key in the coexistence between an Aries male and, say, a Pisces, is their ability to feed off one another. Most Aries don’t last with the other water signs because of the likelihood of their elements to overwhelm one another. If the water sign in the relationship is too emotional and needy, they can “put out” the fire of Aries, and they won’t feel like themselves in the relationship.
However, in the same measure, the intensity of the Aries male can “burn off” the calm, water-based nature of the Pisces or Cancer if they don’t bank their own energy, too. They can scald the water sign very easily, leaving them emotionally hurt or even traumatized if the fighting becomes out of hand.
The key is to bring things to a slow, calm boil between the two. Just like a pot of boiling water, there can be passion and stability between the two if they take the time to cultivate it carefully. However, not all Aries or all water-based individuals are capable of building this kind of relationship with an Aries man.
Earth Signs
Even more than the water signs, the earth signs are a terrible place for Aries to turn for companionship. On the one hand, Aries can become friends with earth signs very quickly. However, Aries’ steady flame tends to clash with earth signs, leaving them fearful of being singed. Because both Aries men and the earth signs are so stubborn, they tend to exacerbate each others’ weaknesses instead of their strengths.
While Aries and another fire sign tend to be just flexible enough to muddle through conflicts together, the earth signs tend to be even more inflexible than Aries when it comes to things! It’s best to keep the earth signs at a polite distance and maintain your friendship unless you come across a particularly flexible earth sign, such as one born on a water-based cusp.
