Commitment: something pledged; an agreement to pledge to do something in the future (the future can be one minute away from now!)

Commitment is the underlying cause of success in regards to – well, everything!
If you want to lose weight, then you have to commit to making better choices in regards to exercise, diet, and mindset.
If you want to find success in your career, then you have to commit to reaching certain goals by taking certain actions.
And if you want to have a happy day, then you have to commit to doing what it takes to have a happy day.
You may think that you are committed to happiness – after all you want to be happy in your day. Right? The truth is that if you have been experiencing a ton of unhappiness, then you are not committed to happiness yet.
Desire is what gets us up in the morning. Commitment is what makes us take action on what we want during the day.
For instance, on your first date you may desire it to be a great date, but there are many things that can go wrong. Only your commitment to feeling good for the date is what is going to make it a good date.
If you want this to be the best day of your life, then commit to having the attitude that it IS going to be the best day of your life. You will be amazed at how the intention of staying committed will help you stay committed! (Say that three times and try to understand it.) And once you stay committed for one day and see results, then you will want to feel that again and again, and soon it will become a habit to commit to your happiness.
Three Ways To Commit To Happiness Today
When you wake up, make a commitment towards three things:
1. You Will Have No Expectations Of Perfection
If you wake up in the morning and your expectations for the day are full of rainbows and lollipops, and you get rain and broccoli instead, then you are going to be disappointed.
Of course you want to expect good things, but expecting things to be perfect will only set you up for disappointment throughout your day, because perfection is almost never achieved. Why? Because you do not have complete control over the events and people who come into your day.
Therefore, make a commitment to make the most out of any situation that comes your way. This way, when that rain or broccoli shows up, you can tackle the situation and get to feeling good with your day instead of throwing your hands up in the air saying, “Today was supposed to be great!”
2. You are Going To Be Optimistic
When you are optimistic, it does not mean that you walk around thinking everything that happens to you is okay, but rather that it will be okay.
An optimistic person will look at a setback and figure out how to move forward, whereas a pessimistic person will let that setback affect their mood in many negative ways. (And they may even start to blame themselves for the setback occurring, which will not help to improve their mood at all.)
Can you see why making the commitment to be optimistic will help you have a better day?
So, when a negative setback or challenge arises, and you feel as though your day is about to get ruined, remember your commitment to be optimistic and find a way to see the positive side of the situation or move through it towards something more positive. This will help you take action towards getting your day back on track.
3. Choose Happiness
Even if there is going to be a sea of miserable people showing up in your day, you have the choice to be happy. Make a commitment to choose happiness today, no matter how many gloomy glums surround you. You always have that choice, all you have to do is saying YES to happiness.
Think you can’t choose happiness? Take a page from Viktor Emil Frankl’s book. He survived the holocaust, and he chose to find the meaning in all forms of existence – even when there was not a lot of meaning to be found by most people.
