Being single can suck. I get it. Many guys on this blog have outright told me they are not going to be happy UNTIL they find a woman and get into a relationship where they come home to someone every day. But the truth is you can be happy at any time in your life. Don’t leave it up to someone else. It’s your choice!
Life is moving by you RIGHT NOW, and if you spend your days complaining about (and focusing on) what you don’t have, for instance, then you are wasting your precious time.
What One Thing Would Make You Happier?
You already know on some level.
You know what you should be doing in your life to be happier. You know what you COULD do in your life to be happier. All you have to do is act on it.
Not sure what that one thing is? Ask yourself what you could start doing TODAY to have the most positive impact on your life. I guarantee you that an answer will pop out at you. You may hear:
- Go to the gym daily
- Stop complaining
- Eat better
- Stop smoking
- Work harder
- Spend more time with friends
- Learn how to cook
- Watch less TV
- Stop assuming the worst in others
Or a million other things.
It doesn’t have to be something huge. But it could be!
It just has to be something that you know will make you feel good about yourself and help you feel better at the end of the day.
The point is that actively doing something every day that you KNOW will make your life better is a simple, but effective happiness hack.
It will add to your day in a positive way.
It will add to your health, wealth, or relationships in a positive way.
And, once it becomes a habit, you can add one more thing to your daily routine that you KNOW will make your life better – and you happier.
Q. What’s the #1 thing you could start doing that, if you did it consistently, would have THE most positive impact on your life?
A. David Leonhardt (Ghostwriter David)
I believe that if you practiced proactive gratitude consistently, it would have THE most positive impact on your life. That means being able to look at things, people and happenings around you, and recognizing the good in them and feeling grateful for that good.
We are blessed with so many things, that should be easy. Yet, we tend to take our plentitude for granted.
We have people in our lives, yet we often take them for granted and those we should be most grateful for often feel the wrong side or our temper, frustration and annoyance.
And so many events just happen and are not meant to be a source of personal frustration, even being a blessing (Have to wait 30 seconds to get FaceBook to load? Wow, you get FaceBook in just 30 seconds; Marco Polo and Winston Churchill had to wait a lot longer!).

Walk 10 miles a day – That’s 20,000 steps according to the walking app on my phone, and burns 1000 calories.
It takes 2.5 – 3 hours though, which is why it doesn’t happen every day.
I need to stop being a perfectionist and walk at sub-optimal times like the afternoon or evening instead of 5am – 7am, which is my favourite time, but which is also my optimal writing time.
I could write a long list of things that I could start doing… but the number one is meditation. There was a period when I managed to stick with a daily meditation practice for about 2 months. The changes were very subtle, so I didn’t notice them at a time, but now, looking back, I can recognise them. I was calmer, had more patience with my kids and got heaps more work done in less time. I’m getting back into it! Thanks for asking the question.
Don’t Feel Like Doing That One Thing?
Picture that one thing that you know will make your life better, and as you hum and haw about doing it, watch this video.
Happiness Is A Series Of Habits
Every day we do things that either make our lives better or worse. By actively engaging in daily habits that you know will make your life better, you can – well, make your life better!
So pick that one thing that you know will have a positive impact on your life. Just one thing. And start doing it today. Make it a habit. Then start doing something else that will have a positive impact on your life until it becomes a habit. Soon your life will be a series of positive habits that make you feel good, and all you had to do was one thing every day. It’s so simple.
Will that help you stop feeling bad about being single? Maybe. Maybe not. But it will definitely help you feel better about life in general.
